BackgroundStory

India has made considerable progress in reducing hunger, food insecurity, poverty and malnutrition. The families reporting hunger has gone down to 2% and percentage of people living below poverty line has come down to 22%. However, in absolute terms, these numbers are not small. 2% of hunger means more than 2 Crore people and 22% poor in India means 22 Crore people. Malnutrition and energy deficiency is also very high especially among women and children. The access to health care and education is very low among several families. While there are several government programmes and schemes to address all these concerns, the scale of such programmes is inadequate in relation to the magnitude of the problem. Further, the implementation of these programmes is far from satisfactory.

It is in this context that a vibrant civil society organization is critically important to supplement the efforts of the government and empower the people to help them tackle these deprivations and come out of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition trap. Moved by the prevailing situations, a few concerned citizens of Jaipur, Rajasthan (India) joined together years ago since year 2000, to help group of chronically deprived persons and empower them through various ways, the endeavor is to help improve the livelihoods of poor and food insecurity and thereby reduce the gap between haves and have nots.

This trust was founded in the year 2000 and is actively working since 7th April 2001.
